A 4th year Professional Doctorate in Fine Art researcher at the University of East London, Aliyu’s practice is predicated on studies that focus on anti-black violence, Black Atlantic, colonialism, and enduring legacies.
Perils of Middle Passage is made predominantly in treated, mould-infested wallpaper salvaged from a skip loaded with the contents of a house clear-out in Aliyu’s neighbourhood. Aliyu has also utilised recycled digital prints of his Escaping Hell Fire as well as digital elements from other works in his expansive oeuvre to make this piece which is currently in progress.
